Growth rarely happens in isolation

From kayaking and campfires to courageous conversations and axe throwing, discover how Strivers explored growth at our recent local gatherings.

There's a truth we're obsessed with at Strive: when people come together with a shared intention, powerful things happen. That truth proved itself once again during our second-ever global day of local gatherings, as Strivers around the world united to explore the theme of growth.

Inspired by research from our wonderful partner, Voluntās, we explored the idea that growth is about becoming more conscious of who we are, more intentional in how we live, and more willing to step beyond our comfort zones in service of something bigger than ourselves.

Across three locations, Strive Crews came together to challenge themselves and have honest conversations, all the while, strengthening the friendships that make this community so special. A huge thank you to our incredible hosts: Ben Vestey, Alison Levine, Jay Carpenter and Dale Noelle. Your kindness and willingness to create space made these gatherings possible.

Our All-England Crew gathered for an overnight adventure in the gorgeous Gloucestershire countryside. Thanks to the generosity and care of Ben and Chloe, we hiked, swam, shared time in the sauna, embraced the cold plunge and connected around a campfire. The heart of the gathering came during a conversation circle whilst sitting together in a beautiful field. Drawing on this month's growth theme, Strivers reflected on questions such as: Where have you recently stepped outside your comfort zone? What kind of feedback helps you grow? Who has helped nurture your growth and whose growth are you helping to nurture?

One story we can’t forget came from a Striver who shared their experience of surviving a shark attack, and their subsequent choice to get straight back into the water afterwards. They did this not because it wasn't frightening, but because they didn’t want fear to disconnect them from something they loved. A reminder that growth so often lives on the other side of courage.

Following the weekend, James Ashford reflected on what it was like to spend time with the UK Strivers. "It felt like such a safe space that I could bring the real 'me' to it. A safe space, surrounded by wonderful people. Strive is about allowing us to be ourselves. To be the best versions of ourselves. To be childlike. To be curious. To keep exploring. Striving is about reconnecting with those childlike dreams."

In New York, the Northeast Crew took to the Hudson River by kayak, before continuing the gathering and conversation on land. Surrounded by the city skyline, the group explored what growth really looks like in everyday life: how we become more self-aware, how we embrace discomfort, how community helps us become more than we could alone. As Voluntās remind us, we don't grow simply by collecting achievements, we grow by making deliberate choices and integrating what we learn from the people around us.

Staying in the States, our US Central Crew held their first ever Local Gathering. Hosted by Alison Levine and Jay Carpenter, the group embraced all the fun and growth that comes from... axe throwing. Alison informed us that axe throwing is, in fact, a competitive sport, and from the videos shared afterwards, we’d say Jay has some serious talent to explore in this sporting arena. Alison and Jay’s children also took part, which was a lovely reminder that growth and connection are even richer when shared across generations.

Whether through challenge or simply making time to be together, these local gatherings highlight that meaningful growth is something we nurture collectively.

Thank you again to every host, every organiser and every Striver who showed up with openness and curiosity. We're looking forward to the next round of local gatherings on 14 September when we’ll be coming together to explore our next theme: impact. We can't wait to see you there!
